Wed Society Calls on America to Celebrate the People Behind “I Do” on Wedding Industry Appreciation Day
PR Newswire
OKLAHOMA CITY, Sept. 21, 2026
October 1 celebration returns for a second year to recognize the 350,000+ wedding businesses whose talent, creativity, and dedication make millions of celebrations possible
OKLAHOMA CITY, Sept. 21, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Behind every “I do” is an entire community of people who made it possible.
On October 1, Wed Society® will lead the second annual Wedding Industry Appreciation Day, a nationwide celebration honoring the planners, photographers, florists, venues, caterers, DJs, rental companies, stationers, filmmakers, bakers, musicians, designers, and countless other wedding pros who bring celebrations to life.
More than 350,000 wedding industry businesses serve couples across the United States, helping make approximately 2 million weddings possible each year. National Wedding Industry Appreciation Day was created to make sure the people behind those celebrations receive a moment in the spotlight, too.
“Wedding professionals spend their careers celebrating other people,” said Ashley Bowen Murphy, co-founder of Wed Society. “October 1 is our opportunity to turn the celebration toward them. These are entrepreneurs, artists, problem-solvers, and small business owners who give an extraordinary amount of themselves to create moments families will remember for the rest of their lives. They deserve a day that is entirely about them.”
From an Idea to an Industry Celebration
Wed Society established Wedding Industry Appreciation Day in 2025 with a simple goal: create one day each year when couples, businesses, communities, and the wedding industry itself intentionally recognize the people who work behind the scenes.
The inaugural celebration quickly gained momentum. Multiple states officially proclaimed October 1 as Wedding Industry Appreciation Day, wedding professionals and Wed Society communities joined the celebration across the country, and media spotlighted the occasion and the professionals at the heart of the industry.
In 2026, Wed Society is calling on even more people to participate.
“The wedding industry is unique because collaboration is built into everything we do,” said Kami Huddleston, co-founder of Wed Society. “A remarkable wedding might bring together 15, 20, or even more independent businesses, all working toward one shared goal. It is an industry built on creativity, trust, service, and community. Wedding Industry Appreciation Day celebrates that entire ecosystem.”
The impact of those professionals extends far beyond the wedding day. According to The Wedding Report, couples spent more than $66 billion on weddings in the United States in 2025—an industry powered largely by local entrepreneurs, independent businesses, and creative professionals in communities across the country.
The People Behind the Big Day
Wedding professionals routinely work when much of the world does not—weekends, evenings, holidays, early mornings, and late nights.
They solve problems couples may never know happened. They transform empty rooms. Calm nervous families. Adjust timelines. Move ceremonies because of weather. Repair dresses. Rebuild bouquets. Capture moments that happen only once. Feed hundreds of guests. Pack trucks at midnight. And then, the next weekend, they do it all again.
“Couples remember the moment. Wedding professionals remember everything it took to create it,” said David Lewis, chief growth officer of Wed Society. “There are hundreds of thousands of people across this country who have built businesses and careers around helping others celebrate one of life’s biggest milestones. October 1 is a chance for all of us to simply say: we see you, we value you, and thank you.”
How America Can Celebrate on October 1
Wed Society is encouraging couples, newlyweds, wedding professionals, local communities, and media organizations to participate in Wedding Industry Appreciation Day by:
- Thanking a wedding professional. Couples and newlyweds can recognize the people who helped make their celebration possible.
- Sharing their work. Post a favorite image, story, or behind-the-scenes moment and tag the professionals responsible for it.
- Celebrating fellow vendors. Wedding businesses can recognize the collaborators, partners, and teams they rely on every weekend.
- Supporting local wedding businesses. Follow them, recommend them, leave a review, and share their work.
- Spotlighting the local wedding economy. Media outlets and community organizations are encouraged to recognize the entrepreneurs and small businesses serving couples in their communities.
- Joining the national conversation using #WeddingIndustryAppreciationDay.
Wed Society markets across the country will also use their platforms to spotlight wedding professionals, share stories from behind the scenes, and celebrate the people who make their local wedding communities extraordinary. “Weddings are ultimately about people,” Huddleston added. “And so is this industry. On October 1, we want social feeds across the country filled with gratitude for the people whose work so often happens behind the scenes.”
